i wish i had a couple of SQ girls to put with my blue salmon boy. he's got the right color earlobes but none of my girls have the red they need to be considered SQ. though blue salmon is not considered a color that is approved i thought for showing other than at faverolles shows. i could be wrong since i haven't started showing birds yet!

(someday!)

Well, the last batch I hatched ended up with YELLOW legs?

Which I didn't want...I guess I should have specified better-than-backyard-pet-quality.

took a few pics today and thought id post one, they are supposed to be salmon but the hen has weird coloring? 3/4 of the hens i got from the hatchery have this coloring, only 1 is what is think of as "normal" salmon coloring. They are strong healthy birds so im pleased with them, i didnt expect miracles from hatchery stock.

It's really common for hatchery birds to have all that black flecking. She'll moult some of it out, but with that much black, she'll retain some for sure.

some of you mentioned using a shop vac for cleaning up the coop and messy areas around your birds. i'm just curious if anyone could recommend a decent shop vac and gallon size. i currently use a tiny 6 gallon one that is only good for quick clean up of small spots like around a brooder. it hasn't been the greatest when i have to do a good amount of cleanup without kicking up dust since i have to constantly dump it in my compost bin every 5 minutes.

my dh doesn't seem to like that i prefer to use one to clean up the mess and he thinks it kicks up more dust than a broom!

That bird is 1/2 Faverolles. That's a good start. Looking at the wing, could that be lavender influence? I can't wait to see it after it moults.

It's salmon. It's almost as if she has the body of a light Sussex with the wings and legs/feet of a Faverolles. This one is definitely a pullet. I have a cockerel too. Same pattern but with black/grey wing feathers instead of salmon. He has muffs though which the pullet doesn't have.

I also have one black pullet, complete with muffs and 5 toes. Most of the younger F1s do not have 5 toes nor muffs. We'll see how they develop.

I am interested to see how fast they grow, not to mention how large. Will they grow fast and huge like the Sussex, or more slowly and average size like the favs?

Funny...I just used one for the first time tonight...and it wasn't bad. Mine is a black & red one...I cannot remember the model but I got it at Home Depot on sale for like $30 I was able to vaccuum the entire coop floor (human area), all of my shelves & ceiling with no issues. It filled twice and it emptied easily.

You could breed him to regular salmons.

White legs will overtake yellow legs in time. What kind of type does the birds have.

Mine has a bag inside that keeps the dust down. If I didn't use the bag, the fine dust would be blowing out the other end.
