Faverolles Thread

When was he planning on sending you more eggs? If it is soon, you might wanna wait. I really think the heat in shipping has something to do with it, but I could be wrong. Gonna be hot this way this week. They don't call them the dog days of summer for nothing.

Ya, I know it's pretty warm right now - I figured I'd give it one more shot right now (well, next week) with not much in the way of expectations, and then if it doesn't work, I can always try again in a couple of months when it's cooler...

I'm so impatient, I gotta try again now... lol

Okay, I'll give you the impatient LOL I used to be that way, but I have learned that good things come to people that are patient. LOL!!!!! How is your blue salmon roo doing? You got him from Henry right?

Yep, I did, and Henry told me that he came from you. I ADORE him! He is the sweetest thing EVER!! (Named him Duncan) My 9 year old uses him for 4H showmanship. Everyone ooohs and aaahs over him - lol. He is one of the few birds that I have that I can say with certainty will live out all of his days with us!

I thought so. He is a very sweet bird. I have his brother. I am glad you are happy with him.

You need a black roo.

You'd get black split chicks from a black x lav, black chicks from black x black (of course) and blue chicks from black x splash.

If you have to use one of your roos with the lavender I'd go with the salmon. I wouldn't mix the lavender with blue. Often you can't tell splash from lavender, or if a bird is both blue(splash) and lavender.

Thanks Keesmom, I pretty well figured I'd have to go back to black as I'm having the same issue with my silkies and that project. I think for now, until I get a few more birds in this program, I'll do as suggested and use the salmon boy. Hatched a couple blacks last week but to early to tell if boys/girls yet

and have more due within the next couple weeks. I appreciate all your help, will post new pics of hatch and other updates.

That isn't the roo I sold is it? I'm pretty sure you (Dick) are the one who bought him (I know he went to MA for a fav. project)... Here he is at my place:

He looks really scrawny in your pics. He was always a nice big guy - not the best confirmation, but I'm not saying that

Poor man was through a lot even before I got him - I was told by the seller that when he got the birds, they were all starving. When I got them, some were still on the skinny side. Then my dog decided to open a window and killed 12 birds out of my flock. This boy and 1 hen survived out of the 7 orps I had gotten. The hen I still have, and she is super tiny for an orpington but is lavender and lays nice sized eggs... Obviously not the best bloodlines in the world, but I liked them for the color and they were always very friendly birds. Sorry, just had to chime in since he was a nice rooster to have around whether he was picture perfect or not

Ok... I'm done

Looks like your off to a good start. Need work on the beards. The beards and muffs should look like three separate parts. Maybe its the picture but I seem to see a black feather in the neck of the lavender. From what I've read about lavenders is if the bird in question has any black feathers then its really a blue splash. Lavender should replace any black feathers. Do you have pictures of the parents?
Dick

Dick,
I checked the lav girl over and it must have just been a split in the fathers, she has no black in her anywhere. I guess I'll just keep breeding them back to my pure favs in order to imporve the beard/muffs (which are there, but desperately need work). Any suggestions with breeding the black & lav girls back to my salmon or blue boy? at this point I'm
thinking blue?? What about the splash girls, stumped there too really. What are your thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't go back to blue. If you go back to salmon you would improve type and could be on your way to try and produce lavender salmons. If you could locate a black Faverolles male you could shoot for the lavender Faverolles.

You guys are having fun with these colors aren't you. I love reading all about it. I am just going to breed my lonely old mahogany to my darkest salmon and see what I get. Sounds boring doesn't it.

Yes, that's him. He might look scrawny in the pictures but believe me he is a big boy. I just couldn't get a good pic of him.

He looks like a big boy. That is the way they should be. That is how my Jersey Giants were.
