Faverolles Thread

When the bantam girls start laying I can get you some eggs, but they are blue salmon roo over 1 salmon, 1 blue salmon, and 1 splash salmon pullet....

That's fine...I'm most interested in blue salmons but I'll take whatever I can get at this point...I only have one pair now and my little hen doesn't produce near enough to meet the demand of my hatching egg sales! LOL So she's just a cute little "pet" for now!

But--did I mention she's a MEAN broody? LOL I took this picture last year (I think) and it was during my coop remodel, so breeds were jumbled all over the place...this is her with one of my Sumatra hens and a Muscovy duck--all crammed into one nest box--trying to be broody. I had SIX and for some reason, this was the place to be! The funniest thing--NONE of them had eggs!

lol I always expect this thread to show in my list of threads with new entries, every time I log in. With Henry away that might not happen.

Our camera batteries are dead so I can't post pics, but we have a single new fav chick! I swear the broody I indulged with 5 eggs (one was kicked out empty a few weeks ago) hatched 2 Marans/fav cross eggs and 2 pure Fav eggs, and 'met' no other roos but the Favs, but she has one teeeny black chick, one yellow fav, and two marans.
Our 5 chicks from Dicks eggs are growing nicely; 3 cockerels & 2 pullets. One of the girls is much smaller... keeping an eye on her.
The 4 chicks from last year's McCallum's eggs' darker girl $ the nice nice 'Buffington style' roo (unplanned nest during our vacation in June), are 3 boys... good since mom has dark splashes, and a girl... so far pretty light.
Off to buy batteries, hope all are well!

both are very calm and quiet, and get along great with each other.

I will post them in the auction area later on tonight, as a buy now ($10) for both
PM me if anyone is interested in them.

I know, me too! I guess it's up to all of us to keep it active now Laurie!! We have big shoes to fill for this thread. My babies from Dick are growing like weeds! At this age (12 weeks tomorrow) I swear they double in size every few days!! LOL I love sitting out there and watching them, they just crack me up. They'll all be milling around scratching in the dirt, and all of a sudden 3 or 4 of them just start jumping around! The other day it looked like they were playing leap frog! They were literally jumping over each other!

Silly birds!

Mine all looked like drowned rats today. It poured! Almost 3" through 2 pm. No rain all summer, but it hasn't stopped since Henry got to New England. What did he do, a rain dance?

The breeding pens have been set. Right now I have 3 salmon and 1 buff pen a going. Also went thru birds last night to take to the National. 15 are going. Can't wait to see old friends and meet some new ones. That is the best thing about chicken shows is getting to see old friends.

I'm no artist but I love my Faverolles so much I wanted to immortalize them

(and incase anyone asks: the wooden chickens are Ostheimer toys, except for the little Fav cockerel which was a special order from an Etsy shop)
