Speaking of combs, I think my bantam cock has a nice comb, but I'm never sure how to count the points, because of the small bump in the front and the shape of the one in the back. So, is this comb worthy of passing on? (let's assume I have a hen with five points.) Don't need to address his white beard - I'm aware, but he's the only guy I have at the moment. Thanks!

Comb on your male. He has 5 points. In looking at combs in general always remember it's only 1/2 to 1 point off (w/o looking it up, I think) if it isn't FABULOUS.

Thanks guys. I though it was five, but you know how sometimes you look TOO hard at something? Well, he's still gotten BoB at the last couple of shows, so I'm happy.

I'm here! Still hatching too, unfortunately. That's what I get for switching incubators mid-season and not taking into account power outages, hidden eggs, broodies, etc.

Peter I don't know you personally but your heartfelt description of the situation and the feelings for your beautiful bird family come through in your words of loss and I am so sorry. Hopefully the vet can help you devise a plan where you can keep your fledglings recently hatched and they can grow and thrive.

I have read thru every page of this tread and Peter, all I can say is that you are such an inspiration to so many. I hope you get some answers and can keep taking such superb care of your beautiful, pampered, birds. What a terrible situation you are facing and I felt your pain with every stroke of the keyboard.
