Faverolles Thread

Are they hatchery birds, or did they come from a breeder? I have found that more hatchery Favs are a little more skitso, and that girls from private breeders tend to be a little silly until they hit POL, and then they tend to mellow right down.

Hatchery. We started with a mix of hatchery birds to get a feel for chickens, the different types, and to learn. We are enjoying all of them. I was just curious if this was their true personality for that very reason. Eventually we will go with breeder stock. One of them, my 4 year old has named "crazy rose", is just plain nuts. She is my DDs favorite because she will allow her to carry her everywhere and runs right to her, but she does the oddest things.

I just got my 2 fav's on Sunday @ a chicken swap here in NH. The ladies said they were hatchery sexed, they R 4 to 6 wks old. so I have hatchery chicks. I started with hatchery bantams almost 4 yrs ago, they were a B-Day gift.
I have all types of chickens right now. trying 2 stay with standard sz. I have 9 bantams chickens & 1 is a silkie roo & 1 is an EE X silkie roo. I do love the mix. at this point the Fav chicks R shy. I would not call them skiddish ( but shy & skiddish R about the same ) . I am still learning.
I am excited I finally got a couple of Fav's

My youngsters can be a little nutty but they all mellow out as they mature. I have to watch where I'm stepping when in with the birds from Dick's line because the girls are always underfoot.

Thanks for the good news Peter.....Nice to see You in better spirits....and that your groups are as You hoped.

I have grown to really love my favs, and would be sad without them. eliz

LOL Yep, one of my girls from Dick sits on the cabinet in their coop and stares at me until I hug her, and then she'll hop down and run back outside!

I am SO glad to hear that Peter!! Just about every time I go out to my lf coop I think of you and all that you've lost...I can't even fathom how horrifying that must have been. I'm so happy that things are turning around.

Thanks everybody. I have 18 ckls and 17 pullets varying in age from 8 weeks to 5 months. Well there were more but you know me and my snip snip here and wringe wringe there. 2 are by a recessive wht btm I had out of Daphne. Their both cute and I will be using them. I have nothing from Cannabis. Then I also have 7 of these HUGE things that came from Oregon that will lay pretty pretty eggs. They are from the enabler in OR and I can't thank her enough for the egg shipping lesson + the blu n blk Amers. 1 trio of lav (boy are their feathers funky), trio of blk/bl favs. I wil NOT be keeping all these salmons.
There are standouts within each age group as always but I just have to comment on a sample cross where 1 of 5 made it (RupertXClairissa). As the hatches went on it got better. Both sexes are really nice. My Arthur young birds look very similar as that is breeding on the opposite side ie Clarissa and Arthur are full sibs. The Adore Me by Arthur produce are way way exceptional. That represents full 4 generations since I started breeding again a year ago this past April. The best producer by numbers was Britgirl for season. I've lost track of a few of the last clutch as it was huge. Not sure what I will do with those birds but they are lookers. Of the 3 young birds from Simmie 1 of each sex is what I was hoping for. Clean clean females and rich males. Knew it was in the genes. 2 crosses back to Simmie to get it. They will DEF be outcrossed when bred. Rupee and Rimmie will be used to create the separation of my lines ie Britboi and Simm blood. When I breed the salmons I will be able to have the separation back and keep them separated. I will use the 1/2 btm girls to go out to a third line for development. That's about all that's going on down here. We're hot but not cooking like so many of you. I was in OK a few weeks ago and got a live sample. I just can't imagine the length of time it has gone on. My coolest thoughts for you.

Have fun

Peter

An enabler you say? From Oregon?? I have NO idea who you could be talking about!!
