Since it is cooler out, I'm going to go thru the birds today and get rid of some of the junk. Have found a nice older couple who wants to take them.

I thought about colors thanks to You Liesha showing me that they were available, solid blue, black, splash, buff, white and black and of course the salmon and blue salmon. Ermin and barred in the UK, and lavender being developed in many breeds now. Remember another color that i think Dick??? posted once too who's color reminded me of a bald eagle. I'm the newby here having had the Favarolles for maybe 4-5 years...but would think that the standard, structure, form and function is number one then color is the icing.
My four Mahoganys are from Sandhill and i first saw them on Feathersite and then again pictured with someone here, so do not know how widespread they are. Mine so far resemble the ones seen here, not like the ones on Feathersite.

The upside, new colors, someone enjoying a persuit with something with a short lifespan that may or may not pan out.

The downsides could be that at some time a lesser color would again be lost after much time producing it....Also depending on what is used to introduce the color, many non conforming traits being introduced taking away from the established standards, also egg-meat flavor & production and what made the Favarolle special could be diminished in the quest for color. Then there is the wonderful gregarious personality they are known for.

I kinda wonder if the production of the bantam Ameraucana can be used as an example...Most of the LF that i have seen look like big roosters & hens, same with EE, but most of the bantams look like they may have DeAnver or something in them....a slightly different shape...

Am not sure why the LF Hatchery birds vary so much too....My Favarolle introduction came from Cackle and Ideal...my Roo and girls were all the standard color. Anything i have seen in the last 2 years from hatcherys that the local farm stores had are not colored even close to the Favarolle standard-dark & smudgy....They are still nice birds for those wishing to enjoy the breed...Theyre just not colored consistantly.

These are just some of my thoughts....i appreciate having a place to go to ask and share with others who enjoy chickens as much as i do.

I agree of what you say. There are so many variations in color and type in the salmons though. Nobody's is perfect,(cause there is no perfect bird). We have colors already that is not recognized in the APA. I did have alot of different colors and liked them all. But now just concentrating on salmons. I commend anyone who wants to take on a new challenge of a new color, you have more guts then I do. I am now going to shut up and keep my opinions to myself.
I hope I didn't hurt anyones feelings. Again this is my opinion.

Good Morning Liesha, Yes being an officer may mean having to be more diplomatic, but please don't "shut up",I value Your opinion....Everyone should feel free to speak their thoughts as long it isn't harshly at someone. There is alot more interest now in Favarolles than there was when i first saw them and we can learn from each other. I would google for hours trying to find information on breeders and find barely anything. Peter's information and an outdated Favarolle Club site. Now its much easier for a newby to get connected.
I am staying with the Salmons/Blue Salmons and trying the Mahogany thread for awhile. Colors are exciting for people. I still have the pictures you sent me and am glad that you passed Your color birds to folks interested in working with them.

I did not intend on producing this color, they were hatched this way and appeared more black to me as chicks. Go ahead Leisha, give your opinion, your not going to hurt my feelings...Bash away! Again I AM NOT trying to produce this or any new colors, I simply asked for advice and if anyone else has ever had any pop up in their breeding programs, and can they be utilized?? Touchy subject I guess...

Nah, not touchy, I agree with Jeanine, go with it for awhile.....Brown is beautiful. I still would love to see if the Roo colors would also be "chocolate" Mmmmm. Or maybe at some point Yours could be the foundation for someone elses passion.

GypsyChic, I think your "accidental" chocolates are great. I haven't been raising Favs long enough to feel I am knowledgeable enough to critique anybody's birds - I have a hard enough time critiquing my own!

I can relate to the "accidental" part though. My intention was to start with Salmon Favs but, I keep ending up with this:
