Faverolles Thread

Weird! I posted a long reply and now I can't find it... if this is a repeat I apologise for boring everyone. I have 3 pullets from a Merlin roo breeding that are growing faster than any chick I have hatched so far. The culls from that batch that I sold to a lady in VT are also doing well. The chicks I am producing for my chick orders have been very uniform in size/shape/quality/vigor and they are down right saucy! They run up to any hand put in the brooder to investigate the "invaders", and despite my efforts to prevent them from hatching (0%incubator was all over the place for this hatch!) I got 80% hatch rate with none needing "help" of any kind. I am eagerly waiting to finish my orders so I can set eggs from my planned breedings. Gonna be a big year around here... I might even get coaxed to a show or two.

Hmm, a Merlin roo? What, someone get something from Dick I sent him as chicks last spring???? Cause I or Dick would be the only source of a roo bred by me. Unless he was as old as time....There just aren't any out there.. SO. curious. What Merlin roo. But nice things bein said. That's good! -)

Hi Peter, that would be me, I got them from Dick when he went through his hatch of your stock, I have a pair now. I also have some of Dicks line. I am basically going to close my flock next year, and work within what genetics I get my hands on this year. Hope to develop a line that is distinctly "mine" in about 5 years, which is when I hope to start showing seriously. Your pullet is the best in my flock. Here is one of the roos:

Sadly I only have 3 of his daughters now, I had him separated with all of my girls to do a test hatch for fertility, they had been his for 5 weeks when he vanished one day. I set everything the girls laid and culled a hatch of 18 down to 3 super nice pullet chicks. Your birds are wonderful.

Since i can't edit here anymore I'll try again. I seemed to have come across as if I were not happy.
I am happy to hear someone got something from it. Thanks for the pic post. You guys up there are lucky. I only have one from that breeding. He looks very similar. Wow you've already have chicks from him. They were a March hatch.

Would LOVE to see a pullet with such rave reviews.

well... this is pretty awful because she was scared to be on the couch. She has a beard, it is a bit small and not too fluffy but it is there LOL Her baby one was much better. They are just about 5 weeks old.

Another picture of the same chick. I could not believe how fast they grew! Even my husband noticed and he generally only notices chickens when they are covered in gravy LOL

Just in case you might like some photos to reference.

As always happy with type. Other qualities, not as happy with, yet....
If you'd like I'd be happy to slice and dice em on points.

Naturally you would want to see pictures when they are at their most awkward stage of development LOL Poor lil geek chick! She is definitely not at her best right now... hoping they grow up to be real lookers. They are as alike as peas in a pod, hard to tell them apart. They are all heavy and broad for their age, and the color that they are getting is a very nice shade of salmon. Here they all are:
