Faverolles Thread

Make sure you get a good one! I have had really bad luck with the strofoam incubators. Finally splurged and got a brinsea octagon and I would never go back. Although before next spring I am going to invest in an auto turner and humidity pump for it I think.
Thanks for the input! I've read good things about the Brinsea 'bators... What an awful feeling, waiting 3 weeks on pins and needles and then catastrophe strikes....

I grow a little alfalfa and some birdsfoot trefoil in a spot in the greenhouse. I cut it and feed it when I have birds confined for any length of time (I generally like to let them free range, but sometimes it isn't an option). - I fed some today and they were gobbling it up!

Nice group!

Yes, I'll use them, and maybe if I use them more than once I'll get a nice little chick or two

............I'm getting a 'bator! I can't stand it anymore! It would open a world of opportunities (Lord help us all

Yup, you need an incubator! I will also vouch for the Brinseas. Years ago I upgraded from an older LG to an ECO 20. It worked well enough that I got a second, and a third. With turners. I only sold them off to get a Dickey, though I wish I had kept one. They are good for small hatches.

As others have said, the hens are what you have so use them. You mentioned the male has better toes so he will help improve them. Besides, they have 5 toes. They don't need to be perfect. Same with combs.

I also cannot take great pictures of my birds. I swear they move the minute I take a picture and all I get is a blur.

Oh, and Henry I never used a humidity pump with mine. Always did a dry hatch with excellent results. I did have a turner.

I got some really good "blurs"!

I'm glad you mentioned the "dry hatch" method. I read about it yesterday and it sounds intriguing. I may try it first and see what happens... There is a lady on CL that has 2 of the Brinsea Eco 20s for $90 each.....I just emailed her...

With turners? The ECO 20 now goes for $129.99 new, turner $69.99, plus shipping. (When I got mine they were $99 and $49.)

They are very easy to clean and have good visibility. For LF I think they held 20-22 eggs depending on size.

You're in a humid area (I'm assuming you're near the coast though),drier is better.

She sold 'em

I was just browsing the Brinsea page, think I'll check BYC, maybe somebody has one...

Yes, I'm very near the coast. It's difficult for me to tell when it's "humid" here, I'm from Texas - at home I don't have to think about whether or not it's humid - it is

I know lots of people love the Brinseas, and hate styrofoam, but I have three Hovabator Genesis (1588 model) and LOVE them!! I've done both dry and wet hatches, and have hatched tons of chicks out of them.... ;)
