Faverolles Thread

Hey guys. Just wanted to post a couple pictures of my newest chicken setup. For about a week I have been fencing the faverolles in with plastic netting. Not sure safe for them in our urban area as they can't free range and people are always walking buy with dogs. So I decided today that I would spring on a bit of electric netting from craigslist. Only $150 for a new charger and 100' of fence. Figured it was a pretty good deal and that I will use it a lot in years to come. So here is what I came up with its pretty rigged up to separate the faverolles from the layers. Plus it doubles back a bit because the yard isn't quiet big enough for the whole 100'. We will see what my roommates say they may not be happy with it. But I am happy knowing the faverolles can be out and about with less of a chance of being attacked and killed.

Nice!!

Nice set-up Henry, I like that.... I have a hot box I use for the mini-cows, I never thought about using it for chicken detention - but really it's more like predator deterrence for those times I can't be around to watch...

Yeah the poly net can be a good tool for pastured poultry. What breed of mini cows do you have? I milk jerseys and guernseys at my job. We use electric fence for rotational grazing.

Yeah, I use it for rotational grazing too.... I have mini-Herefords, the polled variety....I always wanted to own cows, but in reality my chickens are much more entertaining

Haha I hope to have chickens and cows to. That is interesting about the mini herfords though. Hopefully I will have a couple guernseys and jerseys later in life.

Keesmom, maybe that oak is mother nature's donation toward keeping you warm this winter! We had a few Rock Maple limbs come down but thankfully they were on the edge of the field. Nearly all cut up now.
That oak will definitely be cut up for firewood! That and the small maple that almost got the bantam coop. We are lucky in that respect, 98% of the trees that came down were pines. We at least got something usable. I was talking to the guy who drives the survey car for the electric company today. He said while we had a lot of trees down in this town, the biggest one he's ever seen drop was a couple towns over in Lexington. A pine about 150 feet tall. Almost as long as the small street where it fell.

I don't suppose anyone has heard from mame1616? She was close to the center of the storm.
