Salmon favorelles can be sexed by colour as early as 3 weeks. At least as told by pip and grow, a breeder in aus. So this is what I was wanting confirmation on.Way too early to tell at 3 weeks. You can usually tell by comb development, but that isn't until 5-6 weeks.
Looks like you are trying to feather sex them. This can't be done unless your chicks come from a population that was selectively bred to allow for correct feather sexing. Most commercial hatcheries don't do this, so if you got them from a hatchery, you're better off waiting until they're older to be sure. Good luck!
Never mind my comments then, hope others can help you. If you've got a population that has been sold to you as being sexable by color, more power to you.Salmon favorelles can be sexed by colour as early as 3 weeks. Cheers! I’ll keep an eye out on those chest feathers!Strictly by color it so far looks like you're right, but you'll have a more concrete idea once chest feathers come in as males feather in black.
Do be aware that (depending on the source), some hatchery quality pullets may also have a lot of black feathers on their chest.Cheers! I’ll keep an eye out on those chest feathers!
Ours are from a show breeder. So should be a good standard of quality for the breed. I hope!Do be aware that (depending on the source), some hatchery quality pullets may also have a lot of black feathers on their chest.
That'll help a lot then, the color difference should be much more obvious with well bred birds.Ours are from a show breeder. So should be a good standard of quality for the breed. I hope!
