Favorite breed for eggs?

Dual purpose birds - not real good meat, not real good for egg production.

You want a few egg laying breeds.

Today, the girls and I had quite a talk about how now they could start laying!

Haha, I put up artificial light so my girls laid all through the winter.

My girls just picked up laying, out of 9 hens im getting 4 or 5 eggs daily. Im going to wait until my 15 week old chicks start laying and are integratrd before adding any new chicks. Which im thinking Rhode Island Reds or similar.

My Deathlayers have been the best layers. They are an early maturing breed and started laying at 16 weeks large white full size 55+ gram eggs. They've never laid small pullet eggs. They lay an egg daily and I get well over 300+ a year from each of them, oldest is 6 years still laying daily. I thought that I wouldn't like them because I love big fowl and they're on the smallish side. But... I have to say that I have found them to be my favorite of all. They are cute, curious and friendly, but they require free range time or they pace the run screaming, they're voracious foragers and do prefer to feed themselves. They have huge personalities, they do fly well so they avoid predators well here. I will be hatching more this year, but honestly if I had to start over, I'd have only deathlayers.

Deathlayers are rare and expensive! Where did you get yours from?

Our Cuckoo Marans are 5 years old and still laying really well! And their eggs are dark, which makes for pretty egg baskets. I would definitely recommend them!

Thank you! I did know about Greenfire Farms, but not that you could get eggs from ebay!!!
