Favorite Chicken Breed?

And if you live in an area Where there are tones of bird preders and you want to free range Svart Honas are less likely to get picked up Becuse they look like crows...

Cochins finally won me over. Held off for the longest as I don't want a broody bird and I don't love feathered feet (we get a bit of rain) but I took a chance on them and am happy so far.
I've tried various orpingtons, EEs, game birds. And while all had their perks, I love my little cochins. I'm not in it for eggs though. So no comments there. Plus I live in a warm climate. So I also cant attest to the cold hardiness. Especially the frizzles.

But c'mon- look how cute!

My favorite is Black Australorps. They do very well in my climate - very heat tolerant. They are excellent layers. I think it depends on your particular climate and whether you’re looking for cold or heat tolerant birds. I have also raised the golden comet/red production hens. Several of them lived to 8 years old, and still productive (though less than when young). My two Lavender Orpingtons were odd. I did not care for these. They didn’t lay well, and one decided to begin crowing like a rooster after about a year and a half. (Yes, she was a laying hen.) 🤔

SO CUTE!

I have several different breeds, chanteclers, barred
Plymouth Rock, light Brahma, choc Orpington, standard and bantam Cochin, black copper marans, lavender Orpington, buff Orpington, silkies, and Delawares. By far my favorites are my two Delaware hens, they’re the flock leaders, not mean to the other girls but not push overs by any means. Both are very inquisitive and friendly, they’re both lap chickens and love cuddling with me or my daughter. My second favorite breed would have to be my light Brahma. She’s super sweet and friendly, very chill, also a lap chicken and loves any kind of interaction she can get with people.

Somehow I never loved the Australorp hens, just didn't like the solid black color. Now I have n Australorp cockerel, and he's terrific! Am I consistent? Apparently not!
We had bantam Brahmas, adorable, liked them better than the standards. Wasn't a fan of the buff Orphingtons, seemed to be not so bright, and lived short. Right now two of my 'random mystery chicks' are buff Orphingtons, we'll see how they work out here. Pretty birds, for sure.
Cochin bantams are adorable! I think it's harder to manage frizzles here in the cold, cute as they are,
Bantams! EEs, Belgian d'Uccles, whoever, fun!
