Favorite Chicken Breed?

Hey y’all!! I’m wondering, what is your FAVORITE chicken breed?

I want the best egg producer, but I know that the ones bred for production are prone to short lives and/or health issues. So what is your tried and true, healthy, productive hens?!

Just tryna plan for possible chicks this spring. ☺️

Thanks in advance!
I currently have 10 Plymouth Barred Rocks. But we've had a case of chicken math and the lavender orpingtons and ivory Sasso's will be here in a few months

I don't have a problem with their legs feathers. They get a drop of ivermectin once a month. If I see scaly legs then we apply freckle. We are having some crazy weather this year for Florida
Ocar looks like he need to pull his pant legs down. :lau

Believe it or not, the Leghorn. I've had many and I called them all Miss Piggy. They love their treats, so they love you when you come out. And all of those eggs!! One a day. Big ones. :) So so friendly. I've had a lit of really pretty chickens. These are my favorite though. And, they're pretty. 🥰

Yes, she jumped up to me. View attachment 4290691View attachment 4290692 This one thought, I'll just sleep here. The others had gone to the coop. I had to take her to bed. :)View attachment 4290693

I have 3 Azure Blue that are Leghorn x Aracuna mix - they are the funniest friendliest wee birds - mine also jump all over me (brats!), and peck my kneecaps for treats and attention. Sweet wee birds all of them.

Twister Aug 2023 she was about 6 months old there. I was working on my computer in the barn office she snuck in and hopped up on my shoulder scared the crap out of me!

I also don't have issues with the fuzzy legs - but it's not overly muddy here, unless its the Spring/Autumn and they get out into the barn yard where the horses mix up the mud with other yummy crud. Once the Silkies get back inside they are digging in the horse stalls and I find that action in the shavings bedding cleans their feet and legs. My biggest issue is with broken feathers on their feet/toes - and those broken feathers are darn hard to pull out without pliers. Once out though the chooks are good to go.

Gosh I really want so Brahma though, maybe next year.

I have an Easter Egger named Kelly.. she lays a green egg… she was my first ever chicken to lay an egg! She and two Australorps, Rosemary and Maryn, are my OGs from my first flock of hens… they will be 8 years old on March 1st! She is still laying eggs regularly!!!😱
Also, those three were severely injured in the dog attack that killed most of my flock! They are the bomb!!!! The Queens! The OGs😍❤️🥰
They even have their own coop, run, and yard especially for them… away from all the young brats😄View attachment 4290769

Kelly means Warrior or Friend/Protector of the Land. She is well named :) A true warrior woman.
