Favorite Chicken Breed?

How is it that all the pictures have such pretty grass 😍 We don't have grass in central Florida now we may get snow 😳 are those Delawares

I saw the cold / freeze warning out for parts of Florida - I feel for all that are not used to these vicious cold temps - be safe stay warm.

If it makes you feel any better here is a snowy photo

I currently have 10 Plymouth Barred Rocks. But we've had a case of chicken math and the lavender orpingtons and ivory Sasso's will be here in a few months

Let me know what you think of the SASSO Ivory, very pretty like a Delaware (which I am sure they are a hybrid of) - they are popular here, as the local hatchery carries them along with some other SASSO hybrids. I looked at the Irona but opted for some Noirans instead. They lay a lovely dark dark brown egg. They are sweet quiet no fuss girls.

Okay. Good to know. I was concerned about scaly leg mites.

Have never had an issue with my silkies and their fuzzy legs. Just keep an eye out and deal with it quick if you see anything, but go for it! They are gorgeous birds ♥️

I wish I could send some eggs! It's a rare Venetian breed with just a few hundreds individuals alive in the world, and it's so pretty it really deserve to be known outside of my country!
If you're interested in rare native breeds from venice, I made this thread some time ago. Some photos are gone but I can't edit it to fix them anymore!

Thank you very informative. Has anyone in your country tried to being them back ?

Wow 👌 and the snow doesn't bother their feet and legs? Yes we are not used to this. The poor farmer will exhausted trying to protect the strawberry. But the berries should be sweeter now. 🙏

Mine rarely go out in the winter unless it’s above freezing, I throw old bedding or straw or hay down for them to walk on.

Sometimes they go out on Mount Poopmore (my manure pile) but it’s been way too cold and snowy for that - even the manure pile is covered in snow and it normal heats up enough it stay clear. But this year it’s extremely cold and windy and snowy….. we’ve had nearly 10’ of snow so far this winter.

Even the most cold hardy breed struggles in this weather. I have about 7 that sleep in my heated feedroom at night. Even my horses find it hard in this cold and horses are generally good with extreme cold.
