I found a book at the Scholastic book fair this last fall, and I was just reading it again this evening. I really love this cute little book, and so do my kids. We're all a bunch of silly chicken addicts here. Anyway, the book is called "Big Chickens Fly the Coop" by Leslie Helakoski and illustrated by Henry Cole. They are having their first adventure, trying to find the farmhouse from their coop, and run into dogs, a tractor, and horses which, of course, all frighten them back to their coop. When they finally find the farmhouse, it says, "The chickens, bugged, slugged, and bear-hugged. They viewed, shooed, and woo-hooed. They stayed, played, and egg-laid. All day long, the chickens glanced, pranced, and tap-danced until... they noticed their own coop next door." Silly chickens! One of the 4 hens is even a white polish, which just made me love the book even more. So much like the dingy white polish in my avatar...
