Feathed feet get frost bite here

Oh? I would have thought that the feathers would keep the feet warm.

Do the feathers get wet and then freeze in your conditions? (I keep telling new people, "Climate matters").

Yep, they collect moisture then freeze.
Climate very much matters! I always look for cold hardy breeds.

I suppose the experience of someone with feather-footed chickens in dry cold would be different too.

Just like what works for me in the Steamy Southeast of the US doesn't necessarily work for people in the dry heat of the Southwest and vice versa.
