Im glad that I was able to make you smile, at least for a min. Although it is hard to loose a beloved pet, we all learn from it in some way unfourtunatly. My lesson for next time is, shoot first and tell later.

I hope his little sister get's to feeling better. My surviving silkie still is very skiddish, and who could blame her! My husband thinks Im crazy because I pack her all over the house with me most of the day so she's not lonely, and then at night she sleeps with my 20+ 1 week old chicks and keeps them in line, lol.

Hope everything goes well for you, and be careful of neighbors like that, but don't take no crap from them either!

Heck ! Why don't we all chip in and send the dog (and the neighbors) to brandywine's place.

So sorry about your loss. I am also fighting a dog war here, it is just incredible how stupid neighbors can be. I feel so sorry for the dogs, they do not deserve to be owned by idiots.

1. i did not imply that i would kill an animal say that i was afraid of it. i would not do that unless it was actually being aggressive and it actually did scare me.

2. i live in a small town, there are few dogs in the part of town i live in that could have done this.

3. i am not being joyous because someone else's pet is being killed. i am joyous because the animals that killed my chickens were also a danger to children, other small dogs and pets that one might keep in their yard, and danger due to the rabies problem we have been having in our town.

4. i have presented proof. i still had the body of the killed animal when the officer came by.

5. i can only kill a pet if it is in MY yard. i would not kill an animal if it was just wandering the streets.

6. it is the law, the owners will be notified and told their rights, AND mine. they dogs came into MY yard and destroyed MY property. i was doing my part and keeping my animals in my yard, they were not.

thank you. i'm glad that most of us know how stressful it can be to have to deal with dogs. they really shouldn't be running around loose. on top of that, we are currently having a rabies epidemic her in town, so the animal controll officer, the only one in town, is being very strict about the dog laws.

rabies is pretty awful. no matter how much i didn't like a dog, i would never wish rabies on it.

oh gosh, i do that with Haiyup now, too! i'm looking into buying her a chicken diaper so she can roam the house and we don't have to worry about her poo everywhere.

it's so sad when animals form a bond and then the one they bonded with is gone. it must be so traumatic for her.

heres hoping your silkie will be okay

Yay! I'm so happy that justice prevailed!! That is exciting that you have an ACO that has the same love of chicken you have, so you will always have someone in the law to turn to.

So everyone is supposed to be joyous because you are going to have someone else's pets killed? ACO-sanctioned-and-executed vendetta?

Based on a lineup -- you are just going to ID the dog you think was the one that got your chicken, and the ACO is going to kill it for you?

No hearing, no due process, no need to present proof, no rights for your neighbors and their animals.

And now all you have to say is "It scared me" and you can kill anyone else's pet, too?

Oh. Hooray. That's just marvelous.

Enjoy your good relations with your neighbors. I foresee a bright future of community harmony.

Brandywine, if you don't like the tone of this thread, please stay out of the "Predators and Pests" forum. You probably won't like what you see. While we all understand that it's the owners who are at fault, not the dogs, there's little hope, based on the OP's previous experience, that the dogs will be kept away from her chickens.

Yesterday 11:54 pm Heck ! Why don't we all chip in and send the dog (and the neighbors) to brandywine's place.

Bah, it is better to report a troll, than to feed one. More productive to hit the report button, instead of the reply.

I am glad that you were able to get things sorted out. Bad neighbors can make life miserable.

Now brandywine...she never said anyone had to be joyous for a dog getting killed. That's insanity.

She is happy to have her situation better for her and her family and pets. This is the place most of us come for help, advice, and to vent.

As momma always says...if you can't say nothing nice...don't say nothing at all.
