Favorite Treats

They like it both ways. Most often I give it uncooked just because our corn went over ripe before I could pick it all so I just open it up and let them have at it. I'm sure it's not the healthiest snack for them, but I think sparingly is fine and it makes them happy.

My chickens love barley mixed with water in a bowl and barley sprinkled in their run so they have to scratch around. They also LOVE squash cut in half and put into the microwave for a minute or two. They go crazy for warmed squash! :)

WOW! thanks for all the feedback! I gave my girls banana, kale, and cucumber today... I think they played it in more than anything.... I cleaned out their cage a little while after and I found cucumber alll over!!! Someone even took it back in their "room" (under the brinsea eco glow) too funny!!! Well I know they loved broccoli and raspberries! haha Going to try a little mash tonight )

I have some banana at home so I will try that tonight. Here's a couple of pictures of the 'mash' I made them.

I let it sit for about 30 minutes after adding the water.

Everybody seems to love it!

Probably made a little too much...

Nap time after getting their tummies full.

Hey Jeff,

Do you put the newspaper down to make clean up easier??? I must admit my girls are poop-machines. I scoop their poop 2x a day!

No, I put the small section of newspaper down at the advice of a friend. He said to put it down and sprinkle some of their starter crumbles of it and just watch. It was funny to see them run over right after they saw/heard it hit the paper. And to watch them scratch for it. It was so cool to watch them. Honey was the first to 'scratch'. She would peck a bite or two and then...right foot scratch...left foot scratch...back up a step and then look down. Just like she was scratching the ground for bugs. I enjoyed watching them eat, stretch a little, and then plop down for a nap. And of course...there was pooping in-between
