What are your favorite chickens. Do you prefer your layers and their oh so precious eggs? Or the glorious feathered chickens that know how to strut their stuff? So many birds to choose from and my head spins thinking about all the choices. So who out there likes looks over eggs...

Once you have your favorites all lined up how many do you have? I've heard some like to keep nearly 50 chickens...

Others like a smaller scale operation, just enough eggs to fill their stomachs. What do you have/ would choose? If you had the space would you go big or stay small?

Do you have other type of farm animals? Do you believe that your chickens are higher valued than your other animals?

Lastly what is the most popular breed of chicken out there? Do you have one or more and are they your personal favorite?

To your last question:

I LOVE ICELANDICS!!! They are eye candy and like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. (They lay medium sized white eggs)

For eggs. Leghorns and Black Sex links. They are egg laying machines...

But remember, Variety is the spice of life... from my backyard...

I have 14 Jersey Giant hens from Cackle Hatchery. Pictured with me is Askew, the flock favorite. She's friendly, healthy, and is a good layer. Her eyes, although beautiful, are incorrect for her breed. I chose Jersey Giants because because they are a dual purpose breed developed in the United States.

After losing my rooster, I found this guy listed on Craigslists. He's a Blue Copper Marans and is the most friendly rooster I've met.

He's not afraid to use me as a foot-warmer on those cold winter days.

It is hard to pick a favorite. I love them all. I would probably put my Speckled Sussex first, then the Blue Andalusian, Easter eggers, Australorp, Barred Rock, White Rock, Buff Orpington and Wyandotte. On my dream list are Seramas, Brahmas, Cream Legbars, and Cochins. I have only hens, but think roosters are gorgeous and plan to have one soon. I don't even like eggs, but love checking the nest boxes to see what is in them each day. I mostly give the eggs away, except what my husband eats. I only have 9 but given the space I would have at least one of every kind. I don't have any other type of farm animals. I really don't know what the most popular breed is, but there is a breed out there for every taste.
