I am into mutts currently. I do love SFs, but currently, there is no room for more birds! Once the new coop is built, that may change! My dream is to start a breeding group of my own. Currently thinking about Wyandotte's.

I do have a lot on my list of breeds I want though.

Yes breeding your own is great, and I have Wyandotte’s and let me tell you, there are many wonderful breeds out there but Wyandotte’s are one of my favs

I like different things about different breeds but lately I've been buying birds for egg color or temperament. I like Turkens because they're ugly and sweet. I like Buckeyes because they kill mice but right now I have some Marans (egg color), a salmon fav, an Australorp cause she's sweet, two BLRW because they're pretty and two Speckled Sussex because they are so chatty and friendly. My blue egg layers died this summer but I want to get a couple Cream Legbars next spring. Americaunas are fun but I always end up with flighty ones which I don't like. I like a calm chicken haha

But now way! I have a rooster of that breed I think, and I never knew what breed he was though! Also yeah, you sure don’t have any photos of him....

It could be. The picture is a bit blurry. A Sulmtaler rooster has longer feathers on the back of their head. It kinda looks like a bit of long hair. If he has that it more or likely would be a Sulmtaler rooster.

Every breed sure does have their own ups and downs.
It’s funny because I used to own two Americauna hens who were very flighty so I got rid of them, yep i’m definetly more of a fan of calm chickens too haha.

Yeah my rooster could be a Sulmtaler, a Cochin or a black Copper Maran.
The more I think of it I think he’s a black Copper Maran, the photo below of one looks just like my boy. (Sorry before about the blurry photo it’s the most recent one I had of him)

There are several breeds that have a rooster in those colors. Black Copper Marans is definitly a possibility.

So far my favorites are my Ameraucanas and my Orps and Silkies. The Ameraucanas are the definite faves though. They are sweet, friendly, love to cuddle, and are full of personality! My Orps are my second faves because they’re calm, beautiful, and my rooster is chatty and such a good boy. The silkies are just characters and my kids adore them and they are SO patient with the kids. I also have a blue copper marans that is very very chatty and visits me daily and a Black Laced Red Wyandotte (poor red, but not really gold) that is so pretty but not as friendly. She likes to sit with me and tolerates a couple of pets, but no cuddling no hugs and no carrying her. I do love all my chickens though…they all have wonderful character and personality! So hard choosing, but Fluff and Puff are my babies!

Swedish Flower hen is hands down one of the best. There colorful, easy birds to manage, consistent egg layers and human friendly.
