I picked up 13 Fawn Silver duckwing old english game bantam chicks from Performance Poultry yesterday. They have feathers on their wings so they look to be about a week old. I would place their hatch date as Monday, April 24. My two broody cochins pecked them. Either because I took those hens out of their Eglu Cube nest and placed them in the shed enclosure or because the chicks are too old for them (I believe 5 days is the maximum for hens to accept chicks). One of the chicks passed away this morning. The other chicks were walking on her. I buried her. The other 12 are doing fine in the shed with a pet heating pad plus a cozy coop heater.
There are 9 that appear to be fawn silver and 3 that are khaki. I would like to keep one fawn silver pullet and one khaki pullet. The other 10 will be available for rehome once I figure out how many males and females there are.
The chick that passed away. R.I.P.
