Fayoumi Info

I got a young hen tonight! I am looking for more information too
I was planning on picking up three marans, but when I saw these guys, I got impulsive and got two marans and one of these.
She freaked when we caught her, right now she is locked up for a few days, but I am wondering if my six foot fence will hold her or if I should clip some flight feathers, she just looks so able.
When I put her in the coop- she faught the bars- that is the only chicken I have ever seen with so much spunk
My kids named her Eagle
post away if anyone has links to good sites with info please

6 foot fence hold a Fayoumi...not here it doesnt!
I am going next door trying to catch ours daily. And let me tell you they are hard to catch...thank goodness for my 9 yr old son!
I have clipped their wings and no help...they still fly over.
These are my least fave bird. We have 3 and they make the most horrible screaming sound, and fly over the fence daily...sometimes 3 times a day... and dont really like people. Right now one is running around the yard alone cuz she escaped the run where all the others are....as long as she is in our yard I am not even going to try to catch her and put her back.
Hope you have better luck with yours then we do ours.
I am even thinking about selling them.
they are 21 weeks old now...none of the 3 are laying yet, we did have 4 but one of them died some time ago, dont know what happened, just died in her sleep one night.

We have one and she is awesome. She prefers not to be picked up but calms down when she is. She never flies over our 6 foot fence when we free range her. When we got her she was on a farm freeranging. Very little human contact. She now comes to me for her treats and won't run when I try to pick her up.

Funny thing about Fayoumis. At our local county fair there was a fayoumi. The owner listed him as a fayoumi. The judge said he had never heard of such a thing and listed it as Campine. I was talking to the owner and he asked if I have ever heard of a Fayoumi and I told him I had one. Anyhow, I went through several of the breeds and sure enough...he relabled several breeds wrong. We thought it was really funny. I am glad I chose not to enter the fair this year (didn't want to deal with the quarantine afterwards).

Thanks everyone for your replies. We have a golden campine too, and she looks like a golden version of our Fayoumi.

To GopherBoy: if you are really interested in selling your beautiful girls...I am very interested in buying them. I have sent you a personal message and an e-mail thru BYC, hopoe to hear from you soon!
