FBCM vs BCM

Perfect, thank you so much! Yeah, my feathered shank/feet birds are pretty close to that so I'll keep those for breeding (like I need another breed running around...).

if you want to breed a proper BCM than start selecting body type and body color first with the dark egg color. than when stable this thing select for other trait like eyes color .shanks feathering .comb size and shape ,etc..............

you need to select the stronger one ,because they hatched from related stock .
VIGOR first other wise you ll end up with no chooks in few short years .

Don t get to confuse the Marans chooks are French chooks and they have they own Standard .
you have to be aware ,there is different Standard in different country if you are interested to Show you marans.

So the choice is your witch standard to breed for .

good luck

Thank you so much Chooks Man, Karen, and all responders! I take my breeding very seriously, and the in-depth, professional responses mean a great deal to me (I'm just a detail oriented kind of guy, and missing something small would drive me crazy!).

As far as I am aware my fbcm has feathered legs, the BCM does not have feathered legs.. I'm unsure of other differences so I'm following to find out :)
My BCM rooster has feathered legs, and has passed the gene on to his get.
I've never heard anything about him being French, but I can ask the breeder. He doesn't crow with a French accent, but he is a lover, so I don't know.

If you're the same member I was talking to this morning and said I'd ask the breeder of my BCM, I have your answer.

They're the same bird. The FBCM designation came from the French SOP specifying feathered legs. The SOP for the BCM (no "F") is the same, so there's no real need for the separate designations.
