Fearful Pekin! HELP!

Hello, I reciently purchased a 1 month old Pekin duck and she is very scared and runs away from me. She will sit in my lap but she gapes her mouth and whenever she is put down she runs away when I approuch her.

Can anyone tell me how to gain my pets trust????

I have 3 Pekin ducks and 2 Rouens ducks. Even though I have raised all 5 from ducklings, The Rouens have always tried to run from me. I started giving them scratch and now they hang out under my feet all the time.

You may want to try that. It will soon realize that you will not harm it.

I was also gonna suggest treats and spending time "at the ducks level" so you don't seem so menacing. Good luck!

My two 3-month old pekins are nervous types, too. But I've found a new solution...I just leave the garden gate open whenever I'm weeding or whatever. Before I know it, I have two companions within inches of me going through my weed pile. Now...my plan is to try to get them to let me casually touch them....then, wishful thinking, maybe someday they'll just come over and sit with me within arm distance!!!!
