"Feather Art"?

Recently, our neighborhood ring-neck pheasant's life was shortened by a car - so I was trying to figure out how I could preserve a piece of him. It might sound weird or morbid but the birds are "stocked" in this area. Basically, they release a bunch of birds and within a field hunters go at it - not making judgement that is just how it is done.

Well this pair escaped and have been eating at our feeders within our little, very rural group of homes and farms. So many people loved seeing the pair - he was just gorgeous and the female plump and quiet.

On Wednesday morning, I found him in the road

apparently hit early that morning.

So, here is the question is there anything that you do to preserve feathers before using them in a wreath or art?

Sorry if this is a morbid question. Are you thinking of preserving individual feathers or entire wing as one unit? The individual feather really don't need anything done to them, but I have a link with instructions for wing drying if that is what you are looking for also.

We have ring necks here in Maine too, they are so pretty. All last winter I had a pair that someone had let go hanging around. It was too funny to hear them make that loud cackle that they do, as they flew up on the roof on the yuppies living next door to me. They hated them, I thought it was a riot that they choice the only really expensive house in town to roost on during the day.
