Are the feathers that are coming in now going to be the final coloring of the chicks when grown? I have French Blue Copper Marans that are starting to feather. One of them is all dove with the buff bronze, the wing feathers coming in are silver and already metallic. I am thinking this chick will be more silver with bronze head. Then I have some with the dark head and black wings or black across back, so thinking these will be like the photos of them on Alchemist Farms site, where they came from. Either way, these babies are going to be gorgeous birds. Already elegant, laid back, and busy foragers.

No. My first chick turned brown with spots. Now there's red. The molting is constantly taking place. I guess it could vary for each breed. My buff<---- err Barred Rock was just black but now getting white spots finally.

This is going to be fun watching evolve. The Marans I have a fairly good idea what they can look like. Not so much the little Alchemist Blues, as there aren't many photos I can find of them. A box of chicklets!

Guys, thank you for sharing. I did not realize there would be such a difference between chick and adult color pattern. It makes sense when I think about it, in nature you want those babies camouflaged.

Loving our little box o'chicklets! IMG_8603.jpeg
