Feather follicle cyst on crested duckling?

Throwing this out to the community while we wait to make a vet appointment tomorrow.

One of the ducklings we recently brought home is a crested Cayuga (along with two others). She was the only one and we wanted to make sure she has a safe home. They’ve been home for a week and a half.

Today I noticed a bubble? Cyst? Dangly thing? on her crest. It was not there on Friday and I’m wracking my brain about whether I saw it yesterday. She hasn’t had any head trauma as I monitor pretty closely.

Has anyone encountered this before? Could it be a cyst? We plan on taking her to the vet to get it assessed as I worry about it getting pulled on by her brooder-mates.

Hi!

Sorry nobody saw this in time, but tell us what the vet said or did. I hope she's okay!

I would have guessed it's got something to do with a feather trying to grow out.

Hi! We took her to a vet that said they see waterfowl but they didn’t seem that way when we were there. I’m actually taking her to a AVA certified vet this morning. Will update today!

I'm interested in the followup and treatment
Vet indicated it is most likely a fatty tissue nodule and gave us two options: surgery or leave it alone. We’ve chosen to leave it alone as it does not appear to bother her since her crest has filled out. We do check it now and again and it hasn’t grown in size but it did sprout feathers! Otherwise our girl is thriving.
