Hi all, my hens are looking pretty different with their feathers looking thinner (as in each feather is less full- not that they have fewer feathers) and some are even losing pigment. What can cause this and how do I help?
They are not acting different and they’re combs are not pale.
There is some bullying in the flock and some are missing patches of feathers.
They are free-range and fed a local feed mixed with a high protein feather fixer feed.

How old are they? Often older feathers get faded looking and ratty before they molt. The new feathers will be brighter and healthier looking. This is particularly obvious in younger birds that haven't had their first annual molt yet, depending on when in the year they were hatched it can be 18 months old before they do a good first molt. Roosters can speed up the feather damage, making them look worse.

The do look like they are ready to molt, but did you check them over for lice/mites just in case? Check their skin around their vents and under the wings especially.
