One of my hens was attacked by a fox two weeks three weeks ago. Her back was pretty ripped up. I probably would have culled her but my niece was caring for her and rescued her from the fox so I am trying to give her the best chance I can. The wounds have healed pretty well, but they are still too open to have her rejoin the flock. But, now she seems to be shedding all of her feathers! Her tail is practically bare! Is this a normal part of healing and getting ready to regrow the feathers that were lost in the wounding? Or is this some kind of stress reaction??
