I recently discovered mites on one of our 4 hens , it is our RR and imediatly dusted with DE and have several more times since. my question is would that be why it has feather loss? and if so will new feathers grow in? perhaps after first moulting?

That may cause the feather loss, but I'm not sure. It could be a molt, they can go through it anytime between 12-18 months old and sometimes once a year after that. Good job with the DE :) I would also do a thorough coop cleaning and mix some of the DE in with the shavings as well as dust the other hens.
