Feather Loss

So, I live in south Texas and have 9 hens, 7 of which are in a constant state of feather loss. I have a hard time believing its mites or lice as it is only affecting 7 of the birds. One of the hens is 50% featherless. Been going on for over a year.

Anyone have any ideas????

do you have a feather picker? Are they crouded? So 2 birds look good. Spend some time watching your flock, especially those two.
Either that or feather mites or lice.
Another thing to check out would be their overall nutrition.
No rooster, can you post a couple pictures?

Depluming lice. They remain on the bird unlike other mites that only come out at night. Typical mite treatments are ineffective. 5cc of ivermectim per gallon of water for 3 days of 1/2 cc injected. Use the injectable kind for both.

No its not labelled for use in poultry burn is effective. Addressed internal parasite except for tape worms.

Do you mean:
Purchase the INJECTABLE Ivermectin
and put 5cc of it per gallon of water for three days
OR
1/2cc of it injected ONCE or for three days.

1/2 cc one time but I've only used it in the water treatment because it's more convenient and much easier than chasing chickens, especially the last one.

There are two kinds, one is in an injection vial, the other is topical for cattle, which one do I use?

Injectable in saline.

Topical is propylene glycol based. Probably have a lot of tissue necrosis with it or at least a lot of pain.

I don't think that is true. Lots of people use the pour on ivermectin drops to treat poultry. I used it, it didn't burn the chcikens. But, the pour on you don't add to the water.
@casportpony knows the exact amounts (I'm sure there is an article or something with the info as well) and you apply it with regards to the weight of the chicken.
