Hi, I was out this afternoon cleaning poo of the feathers of my flock and I noticed clumps of eggs at the base of one of my girls feathers.

Clearly egg bundles! They have been losing feathers but I assumed it was from the rooster because we lost two hens this winter and are down to just five hens and one of those went broody. Thought he was just over mating. I have ivermectin injectable. Can I use that and put it right on their backs tonight? Also, we have 4 new chicks....how do I treat them? I feel like the worst chicken mama???

I would go down and get Sevin dust and dust them, the babies, and the living quarters - removing all bedding first. Then repeat the whole thing in 10 days. Tried and proven.

You're not the worst chicken mama. You can treat your birds .. . . then in flies a wild bird depositing more. You can only do so much!

Thank you both for your support. Dusted everyone and the coop this morning. It wasn't as bad we were expecting! Even Bo the big rooster stayed mostly calm. Will dust again in 10 days. I will be keeping a closer eye on the feathers from now on!
