Our bottom EE does the same burrowing thing. I swear she thinks if she hides far enough under someone they will leave her alone. It's random though. 90% of the time she sleeps on the lower roost but that 10% she's trying to be in the top roost no matter the other hens' pecking protest. Crazy girl.

Too funny cuz our two do that same thing about trying to be on top right under our two matriarchs head hen and head hen’s bff. And I’ve physically moved one of them because no matter how much they “told” her to move the EE was NOT going to move abs in face head hen was screeching because she was teetering on the tip end of the tip roosting bar hahaha. It was rather comical honestly. I just remembered that particular time. It was the first time I noticed the “burrowing” behavior.

It’s funny that they are same breed and also low in pecking order. Those pictures are exactly how it looks at our coop with the burrowing. It used to be 4 EEs would all snuggle together at night on a lower bar. When we lost one to a coyote the group split up for some reason. One sleeps off on her own away from everyone else, one buddied up with the blue laced red Wyandottes, and the third (the lowest) doesn't seem to know what to do with herself. EEs are just such sweethearts! We have 10 Americaunas and 4 more EEs coming next month. I'm hoping as they grow up maybe the lowest girl will integrate herself and not be the lowest anymore.

We love them too! We just bought 4 more chicks today lol. Hoping that gives our other two some similar looking buddies.
