My 8 month old RIR, Kiwi, had to be stitched up following a dog attack. In order to facilitate the repair, the vet had to "pluck" the feathers from Kiwi's chest and neck. Will these feathers regrow? If so, how long?

ouch.

sunflower seeds with the hull on are good for growing new feathers. you can usually get a larg bag, maybe twenty five pounds for twelve dollars or so, at wmart. i got a chicken once that came pretty well picked on. the sunflower seeds helped them to get new coats.

harv681, Good to hear your chicken was able to survive the attack. Chickens only grow new feathers after their molt....so if that just happend it will take quite some time. If the molt hasen't been recent than the feather growth will be sooner, or maybe the stress will cause a molt and then new feathers will appear. That's what I think anyway...maybe someone knows more than me?
