I have four 7 week old chick's born from Americana roo and two black ee hens. I feather sexed them at a day old and thee days old. 3 were black and sexed as females with the two lengths of tips. One yellow fellow had slow growing feathers. Two of my girls are doing a little bumping and now I'm a little worried I have three boys. I've never sexed wrong yet with this method. Any ideas? We also had a chipmunk Wheaton from this hatch that passed at three weeks. Sexed by feathers as female also.

Sexing EE's from feathering is often wrong. EE's are mixed breed and in order to do the feathering correctly you need a fast feathering male with a slow feathering female or visa versa. I don't know which. The way to sex accurately if you know what your doing is through the vent or wait to look for secondary sex characteristics.

I hatched 3 chicks. 2 I tried vent sexing(this must be done carefully in the first 24 hours) and I saw a bump on one and not the other.

At 2 weeks, here is the chick with the bump. Definitely a male. A very sweet one too.

Thanks. I was hoping that it would work like some other breeds. Still hoping I have 3 girls and 1 boy, not the other way around. I haven't tried vent sexing yet. I had two hatch today that are 1/2 strength EE's... perhaps I will go have a look at the vent.

Here's the barred rock/EE female I hatched and kept.:).

I'm 99% sure this is a girl. I hope to see a darker green egg from her.

Good luck! I hope you get your females. I'm so happy this one will have puffy cheeks!

She is pretty... I have two Barred Brahma Boys.. They are beautiful. Can't keep them though :( They are 19 weeks and haven't started crowing yet. All my other boys have been rehomed by 14 weeks at the latest because of doodle-dooing... I just don't want a repeat of last year. 9 hatched and 7 boys.
