Featherless/"barebutt"

I have several white leghorn hens. Some of the hens do not have feathers on their "butts."
I separated one of the hen and the feathers reappeared after two to three weeks.
I let the chickens free-range daily for two to three hours. Is the pen too small?
or do the hens have fleas or other bugs that cause them to lose their feathers?
Any advice or recommendations?

How old are they? when mine were chicks we had a few that the butt feathers were picked out by the others. I can't say if you need more room because I don't know what size area they are in. Hopefully someone will be along soon who can answer your questions. oh and welcome to BYC!

it might be mites or such (some vbury themselves underneath the skin so you would not see them crawling about)... see this thread for further inro which may help you:
