LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Thanks!
I’ve been noticing blooms all over the collection, spring is truly near!

Mother and son. Biologically grandmother and grandson, most likely. He’s quite the character, and still insists on fighting the guard dogs, like his great-grandfather
I've got lots of blooms too, lots of new growth as well!

Boys be boys. 🤣 Genes are so easily passed down to offspring. Guard chickens! 😂🥰

Indeed! If only that attitude was kept up when the fox came over…

I didn’t actually witness the attack, so the reason he’s with us today could be that he was in fact aggressive towards the fox (he was the only cockerel to display this behaviour, and only he and a younger cockerel survived out of the 5 males).

Regardless, he seems to be keeping up this behaviour, so whatever the case might have been, it didn’t scare this trait out of him

I’m getting very exhausted by all the transphobia and racism I have been coming across in my poultry and other hobby communities. People I trusted. Idk. Just tired.

I’m so sorry :hugs . It feels like we’re going backwards in some ways. A lot of people who used to be ‘allies’ are showing their true colours, or reverting to a more hateful past self.
The climate in the US is certainly no help in that, and more and more people are getting indoctrinated into hatred. A system that was meant to be polarising is certainly no help…

I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope this thread and BYC in general remain safe places. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

What's going on is making me double down on my allied-ness. I must admit that I try to stay away from the news, as it makes me VERY angry, which is not good for my blood pressure or mood.

I will once again say that all the mods and BYC staff have been nothing short of amazing for the relatively short time I’ve been on the forum.

Thank you, truly :hugs . It means a lot, especially since even being an ally can lead to one being singled out these days.
I struggle with the news. On one hand, I acknowledge my privilege as I can disregard them, without much changing in my day to day (I might not be straight, but I still happen to be cis, white and male). On the other, I have a responsibility, to stay informed and fight for members of my community (or for other marginalised communities) that are less fortunate.
There is definitely something to be said about what media one consumes. Reinforcing this “us vs them” mentality isn’t helpful, I think. While I didn’t watch the Superbowl, or the halftime performance live, I think the final quote was quite a powerful one
