Hi, I've had my chicken cocoa since she was a year. Cocoa is a sizzle. I bought her and a silkie rooster. When I got cocoa her back was featherless and I thought she was molting. A year later no feathers are even poking through. I thought the rooster was over courting. I got her a little apron to cover her. She been separated this whole past winter and she lost even more feathers with no sigh of them growing back. Does any one know what could be wrong with her?

I haven't heard of that before. I would check for mites and lice on the skin, and even at night time for the type of mite that only comes on the chickens during darkness. Then I would give her a good brand of poultry vitamins such as Avian Superpak. I suppose she could have some sort of metabolic or mineral deficiency. Have you tried contacting the seller?

Hmm I wonder if she has two copies of the frizzle gene (frazzle).

(This results when two frizzles are mated together- something we are not supposed to do.)
brittle feathers, often they pass away, often losing or absent feathers

You can search BYC for more threads on frazzles if desired....

I know she doesn't have mites or lice and I would think she would be dead if she was a frazzle, but it could be.
