Featherless wing

Hey All, I had a surprise this morning. One keet hatched and had a featherless wing. It is bald and dark skinned. So my question is will the feathers grow in or should I cull him? Does anybody know what causes this issue? Also could I post this question in the chickens forum?

The only way to find out if it will grow feathers is to grow it out. If it doesn't grow any feathers, it will not be able to fly. Other than the lack of feathers, it looks like a healthy keet.

I would say leave him alone- he looks to be healthy otherwise, and even if it doesn’t grow it may not affect him

I’d wait and see what happens... I do see tiny little “hairs” so maybe there is a slight chance feathers will come in eventually.

I am sure you mean featherless. You can go back and edit your post to correct it.

The only way to find out if it will grow feathers is to grow it out. If it doesn't grow any feathers, it will not be able to fly. Other than the lack of feathers, it looks like a healthy keet.

Thank you. Yes, he is a healthy keet. I'm from Bountiful UT and have done a lot of hunting and fishing at the Gorge. I also had a good friend who lived in Casper.

UPDATE Flipper has feathers growing on his wing! It looks like they will all grow in. I'll update in a month or so
