Feathers all over the yard?

I have a crested Magpie duck that is bout 10 weeks old. The last couple of days I have noticed a bunch of black and white feathers scattered around my yard. I saw her pulling a few off herself, though I don't see any sores or bare patches.

I've never seen loose feathers around the yard, is this normal? My runner mix doesn't seem to be doing that. I haven't ever noticed any feathers laying around in the last 10 weeks or so. I would think that now she's got her adult feathers they should stay attached?

Exactly the same happens with our flock right now - they just finished their feathers and now they throw them away. Is it something with the less and less sunlight, as autumn comes?
