Feathers are just awful

Coach, thank you! She's not only cute, but a real sweetheart. Loves people, and "talks" to me every time I go near her area. I would highly recommend Seramas to anyone who likes personable, friendly chickens.

Seaecho what was the outcome of your frizzle. Did she ever get her feathers back? I’ve got one in the same shape and am looking for solutions.

Thanks!

Cackle, yes! Almost all her feathers came back. She has a small bald spot on the back of her head/neck area, but hardly noticeable. Just be patient and give a good, balanced diet. It took my hen MONTHS to grow her feathers. It's been 3 months now since I posted that pic, so your hen will hopefully be looking good in a few months. Sorry about not replying sooner. Forgot about this thread. I'm feeding her 19% protein now. Chicken Chew mixed with Start N Grow. Don't know if she just needed time, or the extra protein helped too. Let me know how your girl does.

No worries! Thank you so much for responding. Did you keep her segregated from the others while she grew new feathers? Currently her and her friend are quarantined since I just got them from a breeder but would like to move them to their new home in a few weeks. I just don’t want the others messing up the growing process.

I’ve got her on a grower feed that’s 19% protein and giving her extra mealworms.

Here’s my poor girl

Yep, when I looked at the pic again of my girl back in June, I realized just how much she has grown back her feathers! No, I didn't keep her segregated, but I did re-home the cockerel. She is with only pullets now. Your girl will be fine. Just give her time. Keep her away from cockerels and roos!

Ha! I got her specifically because my little roo needs a girlfriend. May have to rethink that

Thank you again for your response! You’ve renewed my hope for poor “Ugly Betty”. Maybe one day soon she’ll be Bombshell Betty.

Oh yes, I have no doubt she'll be a beauty when she grows those feathers back. Sometimes it just isn't possible to have nice looking pullets/hens with a roo around. You'll know without a doubt if he's the "rough" type because you'll see him being not so nice to her. I'd get another pullet for her if it was me, and re-home the cockerel.

Her and her friend are the additional hes for the roo. I made the mistake of getting just one hen initially for him but she’s been broody since they moved outside so poor Jack has been all by himself. So I got him 2 new girlfriends. Hopefully he’ll place nice.
