feathers gone

Does anyone know why my chickens are losing their feathers in the dead of winter? We live in Northern Michigan and they need their feathers in the winter.I have some birds that are completely bald. I wonder if it`s because they have been cooped up for so long with this vicious weather we have been having? I`m pretty sure they aren`t just molting. Some are pecking and eating the feathers of another one.

Where are the the spots they're losing their feathers? Do you have any roo's?

besides an over active roo you might want to check for lice/mites also. But chickens seem to be molting at strange times this year.

Feather plucking/eating can be boredom or a nutritional deficiency, calcium I *think*...
