Feathers - How do you dispose of them.

Feathers are fairly high in nitrogen (after all, they are basically protein). They are perfectly fine to compost. How fast they break down depends on how well your pile is cookin' and whether you're talking about little fluffy chick-tummy feathers or big mature chicken primaries. But they all get there eventually.

With the winds we have sweep thru regularly I just open the doors and gates for a while. No feathers left after that.

My neighbor was butchereing 45 birds on a very windy day earlier this summer. I looked up to see clouds of feathers blowing over my orchard and pasture.

He must have feathered the entire southern half of the county by the time he was done.
