We have a ranger in our garden flock of five hens. Recently she has been losing a few feathers and those specifically around her neck, whilst not falling out entirely, have been reduced to little more than the central spines. Any idea what may be causing this? Some other bits which may be relevant:
None of the others have anything similar.
We have recently added two summer hatchlings (to make up the total of five).
We have noticed one of the others (a daisy) chasing her round more than normal.
She seems to be eating and drinking normally, but is a little more shy than normal at being handled. She may be losing a little weight (hard to tell if it’s just feathers) but is generally in good health.
Any ideas people can give as to what may be causing this/how to get her to recover her neck feathers are welcome.
P.s. Some pictures are attached.
