feathers missing

My dad made a big mistake!
We have pigeons and the chickens always flew up into their nesting boxes and laid eggs there, scaring the pigeons away. So my dad cut their feathers and now they never grew back!
I've heard that you should pull the feathers that are cut, but I don't know how.
What should I do?
