feathers - will it hurt or bleed if clipped????

Have a hen with something strange on her back. Not sure if it's a wound, sore or what. Can't see it for all the feathers. She seems to be in pain when the feathers are moved to look. Any thoughts or help greatly appreciated.

It doesn't usually hurt them. Feathers aren't any more alive than human hair except during the molt. I hope you'll be able to help her get better!

Blood feather will bleed, and also hurt.

Blood feathers are ones that are growing in, if you see new feathers you can see they are full of blood. base will look dark, other feathers will be clear.

Thanks so very much. I had heard of blood feathers but wasn't sure of what or where and it was a wise idea to cut. I'll have to start cutting tomorrow. I'm hoping it's nothing.
