Okay everyone, this is my first posting and this is my dilemma! My best friend is an artist, and she uses feathers to make hair pieces, feathered collars, lamp shades, clothes etc..and we're running out of feathers. If I paid for shipping and paid you something, could everyone just collect feathers for me?? They don't have to be huge, they can be really small, peacock, pheasant, chuckar, quail, dove, turkey, annnnything! They can be long, small, fuzzy, but the only ones we don't really use are the really stiff long ones, unless they are pheasant for flower arrangements and stuff! I would totallllly love it if anyone could! And I could trade you a cool feather head band or something! Her website will be up before long and everyone could go look at all the fun funky stuff! first off , Welcome to BYC. My best suggestion would be to watch Ebay, you can find just about anything on there featherwise.

You can try posting an ad on Craigslist as far as what you are looking for. You would be surprised what you may find. I posted an ad saying that I was giving away FREE feathers. I had clipped the wings from all of my chickens, ducks, and turkeys and I didn't think that anyone wanted the feathers and I was totally in shock when this local artist responded to my ad and asked for the feathers. She was so excited. She makes jewelry, headbands, etc. with feathers.

This is a pic of the 55 gallon drum that was 3/4 filled with feathers. If you were close to me, you could have my birds feathers.

wow, that's really cool!

I do buy some on ebay but those are all colored and not very original..I like getting them from locals or buying out because it makes each piece unique!!

I wish I did live closer to you! I might drive there just to get them!!! lol. how far are you from Austin?? I'm always up for a good road trip!

Sounds neat -, using feathers as art but a word of warning.... If by chance you come into feathers from a protected species, you can have a major headache from the fish cops. Had a friend collected some eagle feather off the ground under a bald eagle's nesting tree and got into major legal issues.

a friend of mine once made the skirt of a dress with emu feathers. It looked brillant. And yes she did have allot of trouble getting them and getting enough of them. If not on the web try an abbotior or slaughter house, most chicken feathers and the like are sold and ground down to a protein meal, so yes they are hard to find. Good luck and sorry i cant help.

I sometimes haunt eBay looking for primary flight feathers. They can be used for calligraphy quills. I'm raising a pair of Narragansetts primarily for quills!
