well, I have not touched incubator #1 in over a day...(dont start with me Pug!) and I just added some water and such and checked a few and one of my German New Hampshires has a very thick blood ring. I dont think there is any way it is alive anymore. the darker yolky area seems to be all goopy in there...if you can imagine. I will leave it til sunday night and if it looks the same, its outta there. I also took out 2 more than are clearly not fertile. They were possibles a few days ago, but not nothing. Dropping like flies!!

I agree- silkiemeleon you need to check in more so you can keep up!

I do feel the same as you about the eggs, I hate when you have to throw so many!

Thank you for asking..my three little ones didn't make it. :( Now I am looking forward to the OE's and EE's. I have a lot that are viable at this point, so I should get some.
One of the Barred Rocks had the cross beak and missing an eye. I have read/heard a couple of different things on that. At first, it was blamed on the incubation, now I'm reading more and more it's genetics. I can believe it. I kind of wondered about getting these, this guy is selling them all the time on e-bay, like there is no running out! He must have a lot of them..not sure how the breeding is done. See, I'm good at putting the blame on something else.

Seriously though, this has been the worst hatch I've had in years! Pretty sad.
Good luck on yours!
Aww! Sorry you lost them. Sounds genetic from the stuff I've read- I hope your OEs & EEs do much better for you!

Ok, anybody can correct me if they think my GUESSES may be wrong here.  :)  If my memory is correct, these are silkie eggs, right?

Picture #1... looks fairly clear - I would think it was either not fertile or a 1 or 2 day quitter... ?.

Picture #2... dark yolk, not seeing much else.  Is there any veining in there?  Usually the first thing I notice in the first 3 days is the yolk getting darker, easier to see.  By day 4 you should start to see veins.  By day 8 you should definitely be seeing veins, and a tiny black blob, possibly a heartbeat or movement.  If you have any veins or anything else going on in that egg, I think you should leave it in there for a few more days.  Reassurance. ?

Picture #3.... I see quite a dark yolk area, and a black blob.  It's hard to tell by the picture... but if you see veins as well - I'd think it looks ok. :)  Leave it in there for a few more days.  Check it again for progress.  By day 14 you should be able to know for sure... usually the little guppies are unmistakable by 2 weeks into the game, and frankly pretty cool to look at!  ??

Anybody else?
thank you for responding yes they are silkie eggs. I didn't notice any veining but I think I seen movement in #3

OK this is NOT going good today

1st I find my TSC chick dead, then the PO called about my choc orp chicks. Picked them up, the box smelled BAD! Waited to open till I got home- reason for the smell- dead chick! The other 6 are alive, but pitiful! Ya'll they look like they are going bald- anyone ever seen this b4? I honestly think they were picking each other bald poor things! And they were just coming from GA, it took them 4 days! The lav orps came all the way from OH and got here overnight! I was so upset- they are just pitiful!

On a good note- I got up this morning to 1 pip in the hatching bator! An hour later it had knocked off a tiny piece of shell, in the past few hours it has started to zip. Nothing that I can see from the other 2-

4 days?! Ugh... those poor babies!

They were lonely, scared, and hungry, and they had some guy stinking up the corner.

It sounds to me like they were picking at each other too. How are they doing now... eating & drinking ok? Probably should keep them separate from your other chicks for a while until you know for sure they've regained their health. What is with the PO lately? Ugh.

Pip & Zip!!! Come on chickie-doodles!!

for day 8 you should definitely see veins as well as what looks like a little inch-worm squiggling around. the first 2 pics dont look viable- #3 is hard to tell, could be but hard to tell from pic. I agree w/ maah- leave a few more days to see if they improve. I never toss eggs until day 10 - you never know

I took some pictures yesterday on day 8 can someone tell me if they are alive I'm having trouble with this
Thank you

Noah they look good to me.!
But are you sure the last is day 8? Looks like this has been incubating longer. The dark area should be the chick By day 17 they should be all dark or have one little area on the end that isnt.
