My 2 Isbars babies died- 1 seemed weak, never held it head up & died hours after hatch. The other was perfectly fine, or so it seemed. She was dead when I woke up this morning.
I have eng. choc. orp. bantam eggs going to lockdown Tues I think.
Got my frizzle eggs in, the lady sent lots of extras.
I am sad to hear the little ones didn't make it pug

Nice incubator CCL!! Are you going to put anything around the bulb to keep the newly hatched chicks from getting burned on it? I am thinking hubby is making me another incubator this week.

I think that if I take the rack out of the bottom to put the shelf liner in, the chicks shouldn't be able to reach the bulb to get burnt by but I'm not opposed to covering the bulb. When I was at Lowe's today, I saw a stretchy gutter shield thingy that was less than $3. It would form a circle around the bulb and I could stick the one end into the cooler itself I think...... I knew I should have grabbed it when I was there today.

I may have to go back tomorrow. I am actually going to build another incubator tomorrow - I have another cooler and I want to try something a little different this time.....I am a woman with a plan.....which my husband will tell you is dangerous!

Bummed tonight because I think I lost all of my eggs that I set on January and Feb. 4th. Apparently the light bulb blew and hasn't been on and I'm not sure when it happened. We were gone all day yesterday for a charity eventy and then didn't get down to check on them until 2:00 this afternoon (migraine day). Light burned out and eggs completely cold. Temp said 74* in there. I will keep them in there a couple of days but I think they are lost. These, of course, were eggs that I bought to hatch for my DD for 4H. The one thing that I don't like about by brower incubator is the light bulb - especially when it blows on the one day that you aren't around.

Hi everybody! I started out with 12 silkie eggs. This is my first time incubating in my home made cooler incubator. I ordered 6 eggs from Hardin's Poultry farm in Tennessee. He just happened to be coming to my town and offered to hand deliver my eggs. After I picked up the box, I opened it and there was 12 eggs instead of 6. Day one was Feb. 1st and today is day 10 and I only had 6 to develop. The other 6 were infertile. I was so glad he sent extra. I have 2 black/white paint silkies, 3 black, and 1 gray silkie. They are very active so far.

This is before I took out the infertile ones.

Good luck everybody! I can't wait to see my babies!

I saw that thing you are talking about. My first thought was that would be great to go around the light bulb. I ended up doing something else, but I think that would work great.

Do you have a thermostat hooked up to your light? Never seen a bator without one. I use a hot water thermostat on mine.

Aww...so sorry pug!! Hopefully things go better with this up coming hatch and how exciting about the frizzles!!! So sorry you lost the two.
Thanks CamiLynn- yea it pretty much sucks, but nothing I could do about it. They were so pretty too!

I just candled my choc orp eggs for the 1st time, they go into lock down on Tues. out of 10 shipped eggs, only 3 left.

So sorry that happened. Maybe they were still warm inside the egg and they will be ok. Please keep them in for a couple of days. I hope it works out for you.
