Awww thank you- I might do that, but right now my bator is FULL. If it does not improve in the next few hatches I might just take you up on your offer!

i have no turner for my eggs i do it by hand i know someone that uses a turner and i get better hatches than this other person does by doing it myshelf i had shipped eggs come in they were lt brahams i ordered 6 and 6 hatched i dont think i will eve be useing a turner
Just a side note .I had some shipped Light Brahmas too
Only hatch i ever had of shipped that i got 10 hatch well of 14 eggs!!
My best ever.
Just wonder who you bought them from.Someone on BYC? I did.
If it isnt the same guy i got mine from then i think the LBs have a gene that doesnt scramble very easily
In fact if yours are from that same man then i think HIS line must be super strong shipping LBs!!! LOL
I did hand turn too.
But others didnt fair as well. I do like lock to be laying down. Nut iahvedone a little test for a few hatches and its about 50-50 what hatchs

PugBug thanks - I was worried about that, I need to build a second incubator (at least).
Dan if your gonna be having multi hatches you do need another. I use my big bator for days 1-18, then whatever is going to lock down, I put in my small bator. That way you can still meet the needs of the other eggs w/o jeopardizing your eggs in lock down

I was candling my eggs tonight. This is day 11 of my first ever incubation. I could see the big dark spot (the eye) and it turned and and moved closer to the light and I could see the outline of it's little beak. I kept watching and I think I saw his feet. I was so excited. All 6 are really active. Hang in there little guys, we are about half way there!

K let me see if I can explain this right. I set the eggs small end down and leaned them all to the same side in the cups. When I would "turn" the eggs, I would just shift (lean) to the opposite side of the cup. And just did that back every time I "turned". Does that make sense? Oh let me try this I would take the eggs and put them all like this / in the carton cup, when turning, I would put them like this \. Lol

Why not just tip the bator from side to side? Prop up one end with a book or something and then switch sides a few times a day. Then you wouldn't have to open the bator every time you turned the eggs.

:lau  it's ok, it's a southern thing I think- we're long winded!  Just a tip about shipped eggs, I learned here on BYC- make sure to let them sit a min. of 12 hours, overnight is best- then put them in the bator fat end up & let sit w/o turning or moving for the first 5-7 days. It gives the air cell time to settle & the embryos time to develop the important organs b/f being disturbed by movement. Has worked for me as far as air cell & chick development... OH and by the way, my 2 self-blue d'uccle chicks, 1 looks like a little roo- the other a pullet :celebrate

I let mine sit about 12 hours or more and then put in the bator and didn't touch them for 5 or 6 days.

Yay on the d'uccles!! Very good news!!
